Kïanah Nzanda  Buana is an asbtract painter whose work explores the emotional depth of the human experience through geometric forms rendered in bold palettes. Her work is rooted in broad cross-cultural histories such as American and European graphic language of the 1970s and indigenous ceremonial art of central Africa. Nzanda Buana approaches her practice as a form of observation and translation that carries meaning across contexts.

This work emerges from an intimate process of self-revelation, drawing on family archives that combine images of my parents and my own childhood. Through it, I explore my youth as well as the genesis of my parents in a gesture that is both personal and artistic. This research is a tribute to my origins, driven by a visceral desire to reveal myself through these fragments of life, merging them with my own visual language.

These compositions are rooted in a personal archive of photographs of my parents taken between 1977 and 1995, which I revisit through my own birth in 1990.

They carry the imprint of a context that is both personal and political, linked to the path of my father, Mathias Nzanda Buana, who held ministerial and presidential advisory roles under President Mobutu Sese Seko. I do not seek to fix this history, but to reactivate and transform it.

Between Congo and Belgium, I build a language where dots, fragments, and faces interact, repeat, and shift. This work exists within an intercultural dialogue that I embody today, between Congolese heritage and a contemporary European perspective.

The image becomes material, and identity becomes a structure in motion.

My artistic practice is rooted in visual and identity-based research, where pointillism, collage, and composition become tools of reconstruction. Through repetition and fragmentation, I develop a visual language that questions memory, perception, and transformation.
